Cleaning Services

A dental cleaning is performed by a dentist or dental hygentist and consists of a two step process. Scaling is the process of removing tartar (calculus) and plaque from all surfaces of the teeth. This is done by hand scalers or an ultrasonic scaler.

Polishing is the final step in a professional cleaning which involves polishing the tooth surfaces with brushes or rubber cups. It is recommended that a professional dental cleaning is performed every six months and takes approximately 30 - 40 minutes.

Periodontal problems are treated with root planning when indicated this cleanses the pockets and removes unhealthy bacteria debris and tissue to promote healthy tissue and bone. It may be necessary to see a periodontist if perio (gum) problems are more serious.

Dental X-rays

Dental x-rays provide the dentist with pictures of surfaces that can not usually
be seen with the naked eye. There are usually two types of radiographs taken by the dentist Periapicals and Bitewings. These x-rays are taken by having the patient bite down on plastic bite blocks which position the film.

Non-Surgical Gum Treatments

Scaling and Root Planning are two non surgical gum treatments. Bacterial toxins and debris are removed with these careful cleaning of root surfaces and deep periodontal pockets to smooth the tooth and restore healthy gum tissue.

Dentures

Dentures replace missing teeth, they are removable appliances made with acrylic resin and sometimes metals. There are Complete Dentures which replace all teeth and Partial Dentures which act as a dental bridge which closes the gap between missing teeth.
